The emergency teams of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority in Makkah region successfully saved the life of an Indonesian pilgrim who collapsed and suffered a cardiac arrest in the Masa'a area, responding within just 4 minutes.
The Authority reported that it received a notification at the Command and Control Center this morning about a pilgrim who was unconscious. The report was promptly dispatched to the emergency teams at the Grand Mosque. Upon arrival, they found that the pilgrim, a man in his fifties, was unresponsive and not breathing.
Notably, the intervention of nearby citizens who used the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) available in the Grand Mosque was crucial in saving the pilgrim's life. The significance of these devices, of which there are 15 located throughout the mosque, is underscored by their accessibility for immediate response to emergencies before specialized teams arrive.
The emergency team continued performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) using the defibrillator until the patient's heartbeat was restored, after which he was transferred to Ajyad Emergency Hospital for further medical care.
