The Saudi Red Crescent Authority concluded today the specialized training workshop titled “Bridging the Gap: Linking Emergency Response to Sustainable Recovery”, which was held in the Makkah region over four days with the participation of experts and practitioners in disaster management and crisis preparedness.
The workshop aimed to build a shared understanding of the concepts and principles of recovery, while exploring practical challenges and opportunities for integrating recovery within the broader framework of risk management. The program featured group discussions, applied simulations, and real-life case studies.
Key themes of the workshop included Emergency Needs Assessments (ENA), recovery assessments, the role of livelihoods and self-recovery in strengthening community resilience post-crisis, in addition to showcasing successful experiences in connecting immediate response with long-term recovery programs.
Organizing this workshop comes as part of the Authority’s efforts to enhance the readiness of its personnel, develop their capacities in disaster recovery management, and raise the efficiency and sustainability of humanitarian response. The initiative was held in collaboration between the Saudi Red Crescent Authority and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
The workshop also witnessed the participation of representatives from National Societies across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, contributing to the exchange of expertise and the alignment of regional practices in emergency response and sustainable recovery.
